Technique

Made with the traditional Ronghua (velvet-flower) technique: mulberry-silk fibres are shaped into two overlapping blue petals with gold-tone wire edges, strung with red bead accents and long gold-tone chain tassels, hung from gold-tone hook ear wires.

Cultural Context

The cultural name is 大明风华 (Daming Fenghua, 'Ming-dynasty splendour'), from the supplier pack and attribute sheet. A new-Chinese (xin zhongshi) style piece inspired by Ming-era court colour: vivid blue with red bead accents.
