Every Material Has a Role
A handcrafted object begins with the relationship between material and technique. Fine fibres create soft, dimensional Ronghua forms, while metal, wood, glass and decorative components support the piece and its intended use. Materials vary by design.
CLMADE records confirmed composition and construction details on each product page so customers can understand what they are choosing and how to care for it. Song Brocade is discussed below as craft context; Song Brocade products are not currently available to buy from CLMADE.
MATERIAL SELECTION
Chosen for Structure, Surface and Use
Materials are selected in relation to the form they must hold, the surface they create and the way the finished object will be worn, carried or displayed. Fine fibres support soft Ronghua forms, woven brocade contributes pattern and structure, and metal, wood, glass and decorative elements provide connection, balance and finish.
Confirmed composition is recorded for each product rather than assumed from appearance.
STRUCTURE & ASSEMBLY
Built Through Careful Handwork
The character of a handmade piece is shaped by its sequence of construction. Fibres are prepared and formed, woven surfaces are positioned, and supporting components are joined in stages so the finished object can hold its intended shape and move as designed.
Construction methods vary by craft and product. CLMADE records confirmed techniques and supporting structures on the relevant product page rather than applying one description to every piece.

Made to Be Handled Thoughtfully
Finishing brings the material, structure and surface of a piece into balance. Before presentation, each object is checked for its overall form, visible connections, decorative placement and the way its components sit together.
Care guidance reflects the confirmed materials and construction of the individual product. Customers should always follow the instructions on the product page, particularly for fine fibres, woven textiles, plated metal, wood and glass components.

Our current finished collection includes Ronghua accessories and other handcrafted designs. Song Brocade is introduced below as craft context and is not currently offered for sale by CLMADE. The hand-shaped Ronghua fibre forms used across the current CLMADE earring catalogue are made from natural mulberry silk; earring fittings and other supporting components vary by design. Other product materials also vary, so customers should always refer to the individual product page for the most accurate information.
Material Selection for Handmade Chinese Accessories
A material influences more than the appearance of an object. It affects structure, weight, movement, surface, durability, care and the way a finished piece is used. For this reason, CLMADE considers each material in relation to the complete design rather than treating it as an isolated feature.
Our product information distinguishes between decorative materials, structural components, metal fittings, surface finishes and supporting elements. Where a composition or finish has been confirmed, it is stated directly. Where information is still being verified, we do not replace it with a general assumption.
Natural Mulberry-Silk Fibres and Ronghua Earrings
Ronghua is a Chinese decorative flower-making tradition in which prepared fibres are shaped and assembled into soft, dimensional botanical forms. In English-language product searches, the craft may also be described as Chinese velvet-flower or silk-flower craft.
Across the current CLMADE earring catalogue, the hand-shaped Ronghua fibre forms are made from natural mulberry silk. The complete earring can also include metal structures, earring fittings, pins, chains, beads and other supporting components, which are documented on the individual product page.
For hairpins, brooches and other Ronghua accessories, consult the individual product page because fibres, supporting structures and decorative materials can vary by design. This keeps the confirmed earring material fact distinct from assumptions about other product forms.

Song Brocade Textiles
Song Brocade is a patterned woven textile recognised for the relationship between thread, colour, motif and surface. This section provides general craft context. Song Brocade products are not currently available to buy from CLMADE.
In a textile accessory, the visible fabric is only one part of the construction. Backing materials, cords, connecting rings, fittings and decorative elements may also be involved. These general examples do not describe the composition of every CLMADE product; consult the chosen product page for its actual materials.
Pattern placement can vary when a finished accessory is cut from a larger woven textile. This variation is not treated as a defect when the materials, construction and overall design remain consistent with the selected product.

Sterling Silver, Copper and Plated Components
Metal components may provide structure, attachment, movement or surface detail. Depending on the product, confirmed materials may include 925 sterling-silver components, copper or alloy fittings with gold- or silver-coloured plating.
A gold-coloured or silver-coloured finish does not necessarily mean that a component is solid gold or solid silver. CLMADE states the confirmed base material and finish separately wherever that information is available.
Metal surfaces may gradually respond to friction, moisture, cosmetics, perfume, perspiration and storage conditions. Product-specific care guidance should therefore be followed before using a polishing cloth, cleaner or chemical treatment.
Wood, Glass and Decorative Details
Some CLMADE accessories may include wood, glass, beads, cords or other decorative elements. These materials introduce differences in weight, texture, transparency and movement, but they also require material-specific handling.
Natural wood may display small differences in grain and colour. Glass elements should be protected from impact and sudden pressure. Small beads and suspended details should not be used as handles when lifting or adjusting a product.
From Material to Finished Piece
Handmade construction is not a single action. It is a sequence of material preparation, shaping, arrangement, assembly and finishing. The exact sequence varies between Ronghua, Song Brocade and the individual product design.
- Material preparation: fibres, textiles and supporting components are prepared for the intended form.
- Shaping or textile placement: floral elements are formed, or woven motifs are positioned in relation to the product structure.
- Structural assembly: decorative elements are connected to fittings, pins, chains, backing materials or other supporting components.
- Finishing: the form, surface, attachment points and visible details are reviewed and adjusted.
- Product presentation: confirmed materials, dimensions, intended use, care and expected variation are recorded for the customer.
This sequence helps explain why two pieces made by hand may closely follow the same design without appearing mechanically identical.
Handmade Variation and Product Accuracy
Small differences may appear in fibre alignment, petal shape, textile motif placement, bead position and final assembly. These variations are natural results of hand shaping and material behaviour.
Handmade variation does not mean that any difference should be accepted without explanation. Each product should still correspond to its selected design, colour, construction and intended function. Significant differences from the ordered product are not classified as normal handmade variation.
Product photography is prepared to represent the design as clearly as possible. Screen settings, lighting and the reflective character of metal, glass or textile surfaces may cause minor differences in perceived colour.

CLMADE uses a consistent information structure so customers can understand a piece before purchasing it. Product pages are prepared to include the following details where applicable:
- Craft tradition: the craft language connected to the specific piece, such as Ronghua.
- Materials: confirmed fibres, textiles, metal components, finishes and decorative elements.
- Technique: the preparation, shaping, textile placement, assembly or finishing methods relevant to the design.
- Dimensions: measurements, weight and variant-specific information where confirmed.
- Country of origin: the country in which the finished product is made.
- Making and cultural context: an explanation of the craft vocabulary, construction and cultural background connected to the object.
- Care instructions: practical guidance based on the materials, finish and intended use.
- Handmade variation: the small differences customers may reasonably expect between pieces.
This structure supports clearer product comparison and helps prevent a traditional craft reference from being reduced to an unsupported marketing label.
Care Begins with the Material
Different materials should not be cleaned or stored in the same way. Fine fibres, woven brocade, sterling silver, plated metals, wood and glass respond differently to water, heat, friction, chemicals and prolonged sunlight.
